As an elder law attorney, my role extends far beyond legal advice; it encompasses a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community. The later years of life can bring unique challenges, and it's vital to create a supportive network that addresses the physical, emotional, and legal needs of our elderly population. Collaborating with other community professionals allows me to provide a holistic approach to elder care, ensuring that seniors receive the assistance they need to thrive.
Understanding the Landscape of Elder Care
Elder law focuses on the legal needs of older adults, including estate planning, guardianship, and long-term care issues. However, navigating these legal aspects often requires a deep understanding of the social and health-related services available to seniors. Many of my clients need extra help at home or within their communities, and connecting them with resources that can support their overall well-being is essential.
Building Strong Partnerships
To effectively assist seniors, we collaborate with various professionals, such as home health agencies, senior placement agencies, nursing homes, senior realtor specialists, and many others. Through these partnerships, I can create a robust support framework for seniors.
For instance, when a client comes to me seeking help with estate planning, I can also assess their need for home care services and connect them with appropriate professionals. This integrated approach simplifies the process for my clients and empowers them to make informed decisions about their care and legal matters.
One of our very close friends and community partners is Diana Cabassi, the owner of Seniors Helping Seniors. She can assist our clients at home or in the assisted community in which they reside. She matches caregivers with our clients who can help improve the quality of their lives by assisting them with basic needs or even taking them to their appointments.
Here is a note from Diana Cabassi of Seniors Helping Seniors:
The holidays can be an incredibly stressful time of year for us, and for the elderly, it can be extraordinarily difficult. So many things change over their lifetimes that nothing is the same for them. In most cases, they have lost their parents, many have lost their spouses, siblings, and friends, and some have even lost children of their own.
We at Seniors Helping Seniors® do everything possible to help our clients have joy during the holiday season. In addition to sending them personalized holiday cards, our owner and administrative staff visit them to deliver holiday goodies and spend quality time with them. In situations where their adult children live out of state and even out of the country, sharing joy becomes so much more important to us. While we have cared for many people who do not have family locally, for one client, we took extra care to make her holidays special.
For Thanksgiving, we took her grocery shopping and purchased the ingredients for the meal that she liked to eat. We made her day special by cooking and sharing her traditional Thanksgiving meal with her.
For Christmas, we helped her shop for gifts for her family, wrapped them, and shipped them for her. We helped her decorate her home to make it festive, and considering that she would be without her family on Christmas Day, we took extra care to spend more time with her. We helped her pick out a special outfit for her to wear, fixed her hair and makeup, and took her to the Christmas service at her church. Afterward, we FaceTimed her children so she could see them. This made her incredibly happy.
In short, at Seniors Helping Seniors, we love our clients and hope to make every day special for them. As we like to say, it’s… Like getting a little help from your friends®.
