On February 2, 2023, USCIS updated its policy and now allows asylees to apply for Legal Permanent Residence (Green Card) right after their asylum application is approved. No more waiting for a full year! USCIS has clarified that the asylee must be in the US for a year before a decision is made, but with processing times of nearly 36 months, that time will pass before the decision is reached. This change is a great step forward!
